Inverness is the capital of the Scottish Highlands and considered this region’s centre of commerce and industry. The city has a great variety of castles, historic sites, and one of the best preserved fortresses in Europe: the Fort George. There are many possible open air activities we can choose, from a cruise to the Loch Ness or to the Moray Firth, to hart crafts shopping.

ORIENTATION
Inverness is situated in the centre of the Highlands and in this region is located the famous Loch Ness and its monster.
The river Ness, divides the city which is considered to have one of the most beautiful waterfronts of the UK. Inverness has a small centre, easy to walk trough.
The most important attractions are the St. Andrews Cathedral and the Inverness Castle. The Victorian Market, in the city centre connects all the busiest commercial streets. From the Castle there is a round path that leads to the Ness islands.
BEST TIME TO GO
Inverness is a cold city, due to the proximity to the North Pole. In the grey and wet winter, the temperatures don’t rise above the 6ºC, and in summer they hardly reach the 20ºC, being therefore the best time to go there. The average temperature in the city is 8.2°C.
HOW TO GET THERE
The Inverness airport is located 20 minutes from the city centre and has a bus service, with departures every 30 minutes. A taxi run costs between £10 and £15.
TRAVELLING AROUND
There is a great deal of bus routes travelling in and around Inverness. The fare for inner-city costs around £1.25.
The 'Invernet' rail system offers train services to Inverness from Dingwall, Beauly and Tain in the North, Forres, Nairn and Elgin in the East and Kingussie and Aviemore in the South.
Renting a car or taking a taxi is perhaps the best way to move around the city, especially by night. Taxis are not very expensive as the city is small and routes are very straight.
