ORIENTATION
In the center of town there is a house built entirely of iron.
Surprisingly, the "odd man out" is the result of a Gustave Eiffel design, sold to a millionaire in the International Exhibition of Paris in 1889. Near the house, a state is present in art nouveau style.
The construction in 1908, has worked in the iron terraces. With Carrara marble and mosaics of Seville, the building, now run by the government, was for many years the most luxurious hotel in the region.
In the Plaza de Armas, the main town, the Peruvian heroes who fought in the war against Chile in 1879, are remembered in a monument.
In the evening, locals and tourists approach the Malecon Tarapaca to admire the beautiful landscape of the setting sun reflected on the Amazon River.
HOW TO GET THERE
The region is in the middle of the Peruvian Amazon jungle, distant 1,859 km from Lima.
Iquitos is a magical place in the heart of the Peruvian jungle, located northwest of the country, Iquitos is the largest city in the jungle in Peru, is also isolated from other major cities in Peru, without roads, the only way to get there is by air.
Iquitos airport is located about 3 kms from the city center. There are daily flights from Lima.
From Tabatinga (Brazil) and Leticia (Colombia), on cargo ships from Monday to Saturday, 3-day trip. Boats are the same distance in 9 or 10 hours (USD 65.00).
