ORIENTATION
Miami is located on the south-eastern part of Florida, stretching between the Atlantic Ocean and the Everglades.
Miami is a very large city and has many neighbourhoods. The well known Miami Beach is a barrier island, connected to the mainland, and very famous for its Art Deco district with amazing buildings and some good restaurants and nightclubs. South Beach is located on the southernmost tip of the island and is the major Miami's restaurant and nightlife place.
Downtown Miami, on the mainland, is the city financial hub, with a diverse combination of skyscrapers and neighbourhoods such as Brickell, the Design District, and Little Havana.
BEST TIME TO VISIT
From December to April the weather in Miami is simply perfect and it’s also the time when most events take place. In summer the weather often gets too humid and even rainy.
HOW TO GET THERE
Miami International Airport is located about 12 km from the city. There is a free shuttle to the Tri-Rail train station. Tri-Rail trains connect West Palm Beach, Boca Raton, Fort Lauderdale and Miami. You can also take a Metrorail or a Metromover. A good option would be to take a taxi or to rent a car.
Fort Lauderdale International Airport is around 30 km north of Miami centre, and is a smaller yet easier airport. You can get to the city through Broward County Transit (BCT) buses or Tri-Rail (commuter train) buses. It’s also possible to take a taxi or to rent a car.
By train
There are regular Tri-Rail trains running between Miami and West Palm Beach, Boca Raton and Fort Lauderdale.
TRAVELLING AROUND
The city is too large to visit on foot. You can move around by taxi or you can rent a car. Metrobus is a bus service with many routes connecting the most parts of the city.
The Metrorail or Metromover can also take you to some interesting tourist areas.
