Basel is the third largest city in Switzerland with a population of about 170,000 inhabitants. It is considered the cultural capital of Switzerland.
ORIENTATION
Located in northwest Switzerland, Basel is bordered by Germany and France. It is cut in two by the Rhine River, which divides it into Great and Little Basel Basel (Klein Basel), is on the opposite bank of the river, near Lörrach. Its location has encouraged the development of the city as a center of finance and transport.
With 166 000 inhabitants, is the third most populous city in the country. Its agglomeration has 690 000 inhabitants, and extends beyond the borders of France and Germany.
Basel also baptized two half cantons of Switzerland:

• Canton of Basel-Country (Basel-Stadt), with headquarters in Liestal.
