Tallinn is the capital of Estonia with around 400.000 inhabitants and located on the southern coast of the Gulf of Finland (only 80 km south of Helsinki).
The historical centre has many narrow streets and medieval houses. The lower part of the town is still protected by the remains of a city wall. The old town of Tallinn is amazingly well preserved and is listed in the UNESCO World Heritage.
Around the city wall you will find a series of well-conserved green parks, ideal for strolling.
REASONS TO GO
The romance, charm and beauty of the medieval town.
The view from Toompea over the Old City and surrounding parks.
The vibrant nightlife.
TO AVOID
Vana Tallinn, watch out for this powerful typical liquor!
BEST TIME TO GO
The best time to visit is between May and September, when there are 19 hours of sunlight per day. The amazing Midsummers Night Festival on the Summer Solstice and the everlasting white nights are also worth to witness.
From November to March the city is less packed with tourists, but it´s also darker and colder.
HOW TO GET THERE
Tallinn Airport (www.tallinn-airport.ee) is about 5 km from the city centre and you can get there by taxi for about Euro 10. You can also take a bus, line 2 (2 Reisisadam).
TRAVELLING AROUND
The Old City is easier to visit walking. A network of buses, trams and trolleybuses covers the rest of the city. There are also many and rather cheap taxis. You can also buy a Tallinn Card that allows free entrance in some museums, sightseeing tours and transports.
