The principal gateway to Kenya

The Nairobi National park

Nairobi National Museum and Karen Blixen Museum

ORIENTATION

Nairobi is surrounded by a great area of plains, cliffs and woods that form the city’s Nairobi National Park. The city has a lot to offer during the day and the night. Tourists can choose from numerous safaris, restaurants and clubs, cultural events, shopping and entertainment.

BEST TIME TO VISIT

In January and February, and from June to September, the weather conditions are reasonably pleasant, forming the best seasons to visit this city. March to May and October to December are the seasons when most of rainfall takes place.

HOW TO GET THERE

By plane:

Nairobi’s main airport is JKIA Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (IATA: NBO), which is 15 km southeast from the city centre.

By Train:

The city is also accessible by trains, with daily arrivals and departures at the Nairobi Railway station. The Trains go east to Mombasa and West to Kisumu.

TRAVELLING AROUND

Public buses and matatus (private minibuses that follow the same routes as the buses) are the cheapest ways to get around. The matatus will take you anywhere for a very cheap price, but they are usually crowded, and sometimes drive irresponsibly.

Taxis are not very cheap, but will make city life easier and safer, at least by night. Prices should always be settled before the journey begins, and paid afterwards.
